Water Quality Specialist II (Aquatic Biologist), Montgomery County Maryland – The position will support the Stream Monitoring group and will work under the supervision of the Senior Water Quality Specialist. The employee will work with stream monitoring crews to collect and analyze biological, physiochemical, hydrologic, geomorphic, and habitat data needed to assess stream health. Considerable time will be spent outside collecting stream and water quality data under a variety of environmental conditions countywide and year round. Up to 40 pounds of gear may have to be carried to and from the stream locations. Field duties include: fish monitoring, benthic macroinvertebrate sampling, amphibian and reptile surveying, conducting rapid habitat assessments, physical chemistry sampling, geomorphic surveying, stream temperature monitoring, maintaining several rain and stream flow gages, and water quality testing at various outfalls. Lab duties include: subsampling benthic macroinvertebrate samples. Office duties include: data entry, data analysis, preparation of reports, and various public outreach projects. The ideal candidate must be team oriented, work well under pressure, and be able to meet deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications: Three (3) years of professional experience in stream water sampling and data analysis, bioassessment protocols for streams and rivers (particularly fish and macroinvertebrates), and assessment of stream habitat conditions. Education: Bachelor's Degree in biology, aquatic ecology, limnology, natural resource management, environmental science or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Managing Editor, Environmental Science & Technology/Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Washington, DC -  The Managing Editor of the publication is responsible for the day-to-day management of Environmental Science and Technology and Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry  and ensures that the publications are produced on time, on budget, and with appropriate levels of quality. S/he is responsible assisting the Editors and ACS Publications with refining and implementing the strategic goals for the journal to ensure its continued growth and success and monitoring the strategic progress of the journal against competitors. The Managing Editor will assist in developing publishing strategies and editorial initiatives to lead Environmental Science and Technology  and Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry  to flagship positions in their disciplines. The Managing Editor will also work with the Editors in planning, recruiting, and editing the editorial content commissioned for the publication to accompany its peer-reviewed content. S/he works with ACS staff from Production & Manufacturing, Editorial Office Operations, Web Innovation, and Sales & Marketing to implement strategic initiatives for the journal. S/he also represents the journal to the scientific community through laboratory visits and international conferences. The incumbent reports to the Asst. Human Health Risk Analyst at USDA, Riverdale, MD - USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Policy and Program Development (USDA-APHIS-PPD) is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a human health risk analyst on the Environmental and Risk Analysis Services (ERAS) staff in Riverdale, MD.  The incumbent in this career ladder GS-11/12/13 position will be responsible for performing qualitative and quantitative risk assessments on the potential human health impacts of agency actions, particularly pesticide use, as part of the Agency’s responsibilities under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).  The incumbent is expected to have at least a bachelors degree in a relevant discipline and at least one year of relevant experience at the GS-9 level (or equivalent).  Those with relevant graduate degrees do not need to have prior work experience as long as their academic training has provided adequate preparation for the entry level position.  In addition to training and/or experience in toxicology, biology and/or environmental health science, applicants are also expected to have strong skills in oral and written communication.  This is a multidisciplinary position, targeting biologists (0401 series), toxicologists (0415 series) and environmental health specialists (0601 series).
